Is a night cream really a beneficial part of skin care? I get asked this question a lot by my clients when performing skin care services at Aesthetics by Rachel in Hamilton, Ontario. I’m sure if you are someone who takes care of your skin, you’ve asked yourself this same question.
No matter what product you discuss, there will always be skeptics out there who try to tell you that the product that goes against their own product is a waste of money. There are several articles out there that will tell you not to bother using a night cream and that they are a waste of money. This is not true!!
As an Aesthetician and Skin Care Specialist, I can honestly tell you that the answer is yes! A night cream is a very beneficial step to any skin care routine!
Here are a few of the benefits of using a night cream:
Repair and Regeneration
While we sleep, our body releases hormones that promote healing from within and our skin works hard to regenerate and repair itself. Night creams are specially formulated with a lot of active ingredients, nutrients and emollients that stimulate cell renewal and help the skin repair itself to its fullest extent. Night creams are full the of essential vitamins, hydrating ingredients as well as anti-aging ingredients that are absorbed by the skin so that our skin is repairing itself from both the inside-out and the outside-in while we sleep.
Hydration
Our skin loses a lot of moisture at night time. We perspire in our sleep and our pillows and sheets also absorb a lot of moisture from our skin. When we are dehydrated, our skin will begin to show signs of premature aging. Night creams are much thicker than day creams and not only do they supply us with more nutrients while we sleep to help repair our skin, but they also provide our skin with a protective layer over the surface to lock in moisture. This not only helps improve the hydration of the skin, but also improves softness and suppleness.
Anti-Aging
In our late twenties to early thirties, our skin slowly begins to show the signs of aging. As we age, our fine lines become deeper and our skin loses some of its hydration, collagen and the elasticity in the skin that keeps our skin supple and firm. A thick, nutrient-enriched night cream applied nightly to your face can help hydrate and repair your skin. Most night creams contain ingredients that will also promote the development of collagen within your skin while maintaining or even increasing the elasticity in the skin. This in turn will slow down the signs of fine lines, wrinkles as well as other signs of aging within your skin.
Conclusion
To summarize, the benefits of using a night cream are as follows:
- Increased hydration of your skin
- Improved texture, softness and smoothness
- Cell renewal and regeneration
- Reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Increased elasticity
- Increase of collagen
As you can see, there are several benefits of using a good quality night cream. And a good quality night cream does not have to cost a lot of money in order to be good. So, if you want your skin to look its best throughout the aging process, consider adding a night cream into your daily skin care routine. Your skin will thank you for it!
